Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualifications
Candidates aspiring to become Secondary Grade Teachers must meet the educational qualifications outlined by the Tamil Nadu Teacher Recruitment Board. The following are the accepted qualifications:
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with a minimum of 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE regulations.
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
- Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- Graduation with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
Additional Requirements
In addition to the educational qualifications, candidates must pass the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) Paper – I with the relevant optional subject for direct recruitment. Proficiency in the official language of the state, Tamil, is also a mandatory requirement.
Age Limit
The upper age limit for General Category (UR) candidates is 53 years, while candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Class Muslims, Backward Classes, MBC/DNC, and DW of all castes have an upper age limit of 58 years as of 1st July 2024.

Examination Fee
- ₹ 600/- for all candidates except SC, SCA, ST, and differently abled persons.
- ₹ 300/- for SC, SCA, ST, and differently abled persons.

Exam Details
Part – A: Compulsory Tamil Language Eligibility Test
- Qualifying test only.
- Consists of 30 objective-type questions.
- Total marks: 50
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Marks obtained in this test will not be considered for ranking.
Part – B: Main Subject
- Conducted using Optical Mark Reader (OMR).
- Single paper consisting of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Each question carries one mark.
- Duration: 3 hours
