A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) is a graduate professional degree which prepares students to work as a teacher in schools. We have gathered B.Ed complete details which you should know before applying for this course.


The duration of this course is generally about two years. It consists four semesters.
This course can also be pursued through distance learning or correspondence which is usually about 2 years. 

 Eligibility for B.Ed in India

The minimum qualification required to pursue this course is graduation in any stream (that is, Arts, Science or Commerce).


The Percentage required for general category is minimum 50% in their graduation or post-graduation level


For admissions there is no upper age limit.

Duration of B.Ed course

Bachelors of Education, popularly referred as B.Ed. It is a two-year full-time degree course that is essential for candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching and other related fields.
Few colleges even offer this course as distance learning or correspondence which too is of 2 years.
In February 2019 HRD has introduced a four-year integrated teacher training B.Ed course.

Candidates can join the 4-year B.Ed course after completing their Class 12.

The 4-year B.Ed course will be offered in the following capacities:
B.A (B.Ed)
B.Sc (B.Ed)
B.Com (B.Ed)

As of now, a limited number of colleges are offering the four-year B.Ed programme.  

Admission procedure


B.Ed admission in a majority of colleges and universities is done on the basis of entrance exams.
Some institutes also take admission on the basis of merit.

Admission forms for B.Ed varies from Feb to Aug depending on the university. For some universities it came out in Feb-Mar, some came out in May June and some in July-Aug


Entrance examinations mainly covers the given below 5 sections:


General Knowledge
Verbal Aptitude
Teaching Aptitude
Logical Reasoning
Quantitative Aptitude

Fee structure


Average fee charged for Bachelor in Education ranges up to INR 1 Lakh to 2 lakh per annum for private institutes. While Govt University or institute fees ranges up to 30 thousand to 60 thousand.
The fee structure varies with the institute or universities.

TET


The Teacher Eligibility Test, known as TET, is the minimum qualification required in India for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for Classes I to VIII. The test is mandatory for teaching jobs in Indian government schools.
The TET is conducted both by the central and state governments of India. Most states conduct their own TET

Central level TET is CTET Central Teacher Eligibility Test. Successful candidates become eligible to apply for recruitment as teachers of Classes I to VIII in schools under the purview of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.)

PGT/TGT/PRT

PGT: Postgraduate teacher.
B.ed and post-graduation in the subject concerned 
PGTs teaches senior secondary level, i.e., 11th and 12th. 


TGT: Trained graduate teacher.
Least qualification required: B.ed and graduate in the subject you need to teach. 
TGT teaches at the secondary level, i.e., from sixth to tenth.


PRT: Primary teacher 
The least capability required is diploma in elementary teaching or Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). They teaches from 1st to 5th.
